JD Miller, artist and co-owner of Samuel Lynne Galleries, founded Reflectionism in 2001. This art movement blends Asian mindfulness, meditation, and 19th-century New Thought philosophy, which emphasizes Infinite Intelligence, the divinity of self, and the healing power of positive thinking. In modern terms, Reflectionism aligns with the law of attraction—the belief that focusing on positive or negative thoughts attracts corresponding experiences. Reflectionist artists channel universal energy onto their canvases, creating works that reflect this dynamic. Reflectionism has two key elements: embracing the law of attraction and translating it into art. JD Miller’s signature 3-Dimensional oil painting technique uses thick oil applied with painting knives, adding sculptural depth. While thick oil painting dates back to modern art’s beginnings, Miller’s method is uniquely innovative, inspiring fellow Reflectionists to expand this approach. Drawing inspiration from Impressionists, Reflectionists modernize techniques, emphasizing reflections and perspective. Unlike the Impressionists’ focus on light in nature, Reflectionists capture their essence of life in the 21st century.
