Tyler Shields was born in Jacksonville, Fla. on April 29, 1982, and moved to Los Angeles over a decade ago. After beginning his career directing music videos, Shields quickly moved to still photography. Known for his unique brand of volatile and off-handed celebrity photography, he has come to be recognized as “Hollywood’s Favorite Photographer.” Shields’s list of celebrity subjects makes his photography notably eye-catching. His collaborators have included Zachary Quinto, Emma Roberts, Francesa Eastwood, Twilight’s Ashley Greene, Glee’s Heather Morris, Hayden Panettiere, Justin Long, Backstreet Boy Howie Dorouge, and Lindsay Lohan.
Although he is considered a celebrity photographer, the meaning behind Tyler Shields’s artwork goes so much deeper than the famous faces inhabiting them. Often using dark and controversial subject matter, his photography challenges convention, forcing the viewer to contemplate the true nature of human existence. Having earned international acclaim, Shields’s artwork is featured in many notable galleries around the world, including The Maddox Gallery, Guy Hepner Art Gallery, and Andrew Weiss Gallery, among others.
In addition to being an internationally recognized photographer, Shields has also dabbled in cinematography, making his directorial debut with the film Final Girl, starring Oscar Nominated actress Abigail Breslin and The Hunger Games’ Wes Bentley. Stretching his artistic endeavors even further, Shields has also written and published several books, including The Dirty Side of Glamour and The Smartest Man.
